Nestled between the Tibetan plateau and the Dhaulagiri region, the Dolpo area is a hidden gem, often referred to as the Shangri-La of dreams. Embark on the Upper Dolpo Trek with us, where ancient myths speak of a sanctuary for Buddhists created by Guru Rinpoche.

The Upper Dolpo Trek is a journey of a lifetime. This trek leads you to one of the most remote and untouched regions in mid-western Nepal, offering a landscape in its raw, rugged beauty. Ideal for adventurers looking to explore paths less traveled, this trek allows you to witness areas rarely seen by the outside world.

For years, Dolpo was off-limits to trekkers, remaining closed until 1989. This seclusion has helped preserve its ancient landscapes and unique culture. In earlier times, only a handful of anthropologists and explorers had ventured here. Today, special permits allow organized trekking groups to experience this untouched region.

The towering peaks of Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and the Chure Himal range frame the eastern and southern horizons. For a long time, Dhaulagiri was considered the tallest mountain in the world. The majestic views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Kanjiroba from Upper Dolpo are truly breathtaking.

The Upper Dolpo Trek offers close encounters with pristine mountains, centuries-old monasteries, and shimmering turquoise lakes. With settlements perched at elevations above 4,300 meters, the Dolpo region is home to some of the highest-altitude communities in the world.

Dolpo’s secluded valleys are among the last bastions of ancient Tibetan culture. Additionally, it is the only place where the pre-Buddhist Bon Po religion is still practiced. Life in Upper Dolpo seems frozen in time, untouched by the modern world, preserving its unique cultural and spiritual heritage.

Besides its cultural richness, Upper Dolpo is a haven for wildlife lovers. Spotting exotic animals like the Blue Sheep, Snow Leopard, and Himalayan Langur adds to the thrill of the journey.

Over 25 days, you'll pass through ancient villages, immerse yourself in unique traditions, and encounter local inhabitants. Along the way, you’ll cross challenging high passes, witness the serenity of Shey Phoksundo Lake, and visit the sacred Shey Gompa, where spirituality is deeply ingrained in the environment.

Despite the monsoon season, Upper Dolpo remains accessible, shielded by the Dhaulagiri range. Summer treks offer the added beauty of blooming orchids, Edelweiss, and other alpine flowers in full bloom.

Trekking through this Trans-Himalayan region is an adventure like no other. Our Upper Dolpo Trek combines excitement, natural beauty, cultural immersion, and spiritual depth. Join us for an unforgettable journey into the wild west of Nepal and see it for yourself.

For a different experience, consider the Lower Dolpo Trek.
